The betel nut palm
was a common sight all over the island a fact that
gave rise to the name Pulau Pinang (Island of Betel
Nut). Penang has come a long way from its early
beginnings as the first British trading port in the
Far East. Its capital, Georgetown is a bustling
metropolitan city with a unique blend of East and
West. Penang owes much of its fame to its fine
beaches, which are ideal for all type of water
sports. Along its beaches, resorts of international
standards have sprouted up offering full facility
